BIM and VDC started as office-based specialty roles, but increasingly these tasks can take place outside the office on iPads, where work is actually occurring. We can go through it with our iPads and we’ve refined the process to the point that between 80 and 85 percent of our punch list is completed without typing. It’s so much easier.

A couple of years ago, a colleague of mine lost his iPad after leaving it in a rental car while traveling. Fortunately, he had installed an app that cleared all of his personal information and locked down the iPad. If you anticipate potential problems and have a plan for how to address them, they’ll be smaller problems in the end.
