Ive been teaching our office how to use Revit Architecture. In the options bar youll notice that you can "Reference other view" (for referencing a drafting view that is already present). Now the trick is that after youve created your elements you have to Edit the work plane of each element so that the elements are attached to the reference plane you would like them to "travel with." The data was then fed into an application that utilizes the Revit API to assign the book name, cost, reference number, publisher name, etc to model objects in Revit which in this case happened to be books on a shelf. The other issue is when the data in the CAD file is small enough in extents but really far away from the files origin, according to the WCS which is all Revit really pays any attention to. This manifests itself in snap icons that appear to miss the element we are attempting to reference in the CAD file.
