Level of development (LOD) relative to the life-cycle management of the built environment (BIM) should have a solid framework relative to ONTOLOGY. While the definition of “life-cycle” has many permutations, and is likely to undergo ongoing improvement, the relationship to LOD needs to be developed in parallel.

A “FACEBOOK for Facilities Construction and Life-cycle Operations” is on the horizon. The next aspect is of course BIM. BIM definition, from NIBS, and I paraphrase, is the life-cycle management of facilities supported by digital technology.

Apparently Germany’s Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has issued a statement that the country ” fully embrace BIM, stating it must become standard for construction projects.”
