In our previous post, Complementing CAD , the architect had dotted lines to display the path of travel. Line Styles for paths, roadways, pipelines, fencing, railways, boundaries and borders are often used in illustrations and appear on construction plans. So what if you need something more elaborate?

These grids are 2D and represented (mostly) in plans. You can bring in the ‘magic painters’ that will paint the dots on the butterfly early in, but with little use, if your caterpillar is still merrily chewing on the green leaves. That sentence I just wrote, is a mouthful, but do read it again.

It makes it easier to keep certain sections (details/wall sections) and elevations (interior) off of overall floor plan views for example. Related to this is the notion that there are representations that wed like to control for floor plan orientation and offer a different appear for the reflected ceiling plan (RCP) version.

We are not a DOT company; we don’t do bridges, we don’t do highways. I applied it more in the residential space by doing house drawings and house plans, and learning the parametric modeling side for families. BIM Managers have evolved from the old-school CAD manager. So I picked that up and used it post-graduation.

If the insulation is known or suspected to contain asbestos, check the building’s asbestos management plan to see it has been tested for asbestos. Manage asbestos in accordance with the plan. Note all deteriorated areas on the roof plan for comparison later on the roof. If it is suspect but has not been tested, have it tested.
