When we create a new drafting view we are presented with an empty view. We are free to begin our drafting exercise anywhere we see fit. If we import a simple CAD file that has some lines that define where the 0,0,0 origin is we''ll find out exactly where the origin is in the drafting view (use Auto-Origin to Origin).

Long gone are the days when we had to be experts in drafting by hand; computer-aided design (CAD) software and 3-D modeling tools can generate measured drawings and photorealistic renderings with a keystroke. Is this a good thing? Not always. When it comes to the design process, technology is both a blessing and a curse.

Level 0 : Level 0 entails basically no collaboration, and only 2D CAD drafting is used. Level 1 : Level 1 BIM is a combination of 3D CAD and 2D for drafting. Let us know on Twitter or Facebook. BIM levels are a universal understanding of what criteria are required to be BIM-compliant.

Just a short post tonight to plug a new blog that my friend Steven Shell decided to start called BIM: Integrating Art & Technology He is a practicing architect in Tuscon (sole practitioner) that skipped over the whole "CAD thing" and went straight to Revit from hand drafting. From Reference other View you can choose either drafting views (good for site/existing condition photos) or any view saved as a "rendering" (image) in the project. Of course, because its an elevation tag, it will carry the sheet/detail number references when you place your drafting or rendering view onto a sheet. See us @ RTC NA 12.

I am currently studying the options for a MEP firm that has been using AutoCAD for the last 15 years. CAD has been clicking along here for some time now, but there is an ever-increasing pressure to be able to deliver something more than the competition. We need confident CAD users who are fluent in 3 CAD languages.

When software uses the same word we routinely use to describe something we do it is supposed to make it easier to understand and use. A good many of us in the AEC business are familiar with the concept of using keynotes on drawings. Most refer to being the keynote speaker at an event or related to music.
