To achieve the result in the third image its is all about how you draw the arc that creates the sphere. In this case the differing result is because the normal(s) of the surface that make the void are different based on the direction of the arc, which is controlled by how you draw it. When you visit the product site you will see its being paired up (suite pricing) and compared with AutoCAD LT as well as the obvious comparisons with the full featured Revit. It seems unlikely to me that Revit LT will truly serve any notion of BIM other than " lonely BIM ". They said they are working to revise the site.

Over here on the MEP side, we will take an hour to make, say, an air handling unit per the 2-D selection drawings from the vendor, add the necessary connectors, then 'load into project' We will then save it as a stand-alone family, with a useful file name, in a server folder with the vendor's name.
