Integrated Health Projects has signed off a £100m deal with Derbyshire Healthcare Trust to design and build two 54-bed mental health facilities. Ryder Architecture designed the units along with Curtins Consulting as the structural engineer and CAD 21 as building services designer.

Fluency is probably below 1% of all the people that work in the AEC industry and deal with its information day in and out. A good modeller will have plenty of opportunities to model, but rule number one is, that the ‘drawings’ are priority, what consultancies get paid for. Provide CAD files of their installation details?

Obviously we are dealing with the results of a non-model based documentation and a slightly stroppy CAD work, but viewing the outputs from the creation of the virtual model representation of the building, neither the architect nor the structural engineer have blundered.

I could imagine sheer horror on their faces recognizing that the current self-claimed ‘masters’ of the profession are by and large hands-off managers, conductors of orchestras, themselves unable to read the ‘music’ Poor gamblers of other parties’ money in an unregulated industry.

(or, is there any relation between the ‘factually’ very low level of BIM-maturity of the industry and the aggressive buy-outs happening in the AEC’s consultancy-field?) I will not name the individual, let’s just say, on this particular forum, he represented a large, big-name, multinational AEC consultancy, starting with the letter ‘A’.

Linked CAD (etc. Obviously you dont need all of these in one project, they are just a sampling of some you could use or consultants might be using. Filters will let us deal with that reasonably well, assuming the content is organized well. Other Links.

unconvinced of the benefits); Consultants aren’t playing ball and don’t use open BIM. Deal with it! Some CAD developer is going to turn out a really cool proprietary integrated environment and either you go with it or lose out in the market, regardless of BIM. Yes, clients should be asking for it. No, they are not.
