38 States Add Construction Jobs in January

'Construction firms added jobs in 38 states between January 2013 and January 2014, while 27 states experienced construction employment gains between December and January, according to an analysis of federal data by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). "Especially considering the fact many parts of the country experienced very harsh weather in January, these construction jobs figures are particularly robust," said Ken Simonson, AGC’s chief economist.

Architecture Billings Index shows slight improvement

'After starting out the year on a positive note, there was another minor increase in the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) last month. As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate nine to twelve month lead time between architecture billings and construction spending. Colorado Contractors Cited for Trenching Hazards

'OSHA cited Reconstruction Experts Inc. for three safety violations, including one willful. Chivas Contractors was also cited for three serious safety violations during the November 2013 complaint inspection of an unsafe trenching work site in Aurora, Colo. The combined proposed penalties total $81,400. Reconstruction Experts solicited help from framing subcontractor Chivas Contractors, to locate a damaged water pipe for an apartment complex that was being renovated.
