An Ode to ArchiCAD…or…can we call it something else?

About a year ago GS rebranded its ArchiCAD, its logo turning from a somewhat curvy A to an arch with a point. Surely those in the know would by now realize that it is holding the ‘product’ back. ArchiCAD just sounds like a snobbier (or more obscure) version of AutoCAD. I badgered them about the ArchiCAD name, even then.

I said it before, and not just once: repackage your product, call it an ‘all encompassing, constructing BIM tool’ and you’ll do more good to the industry than any type of new tool development. My dear, beloved, ArchiCAD and Graphisoft. Yet, you launch a ‘stair tool’. I mean, really? Please wake up!

See, once upon a time, some decade or so ago – BIM (or VC) and Graphisoft (with ArchiCAD) were doing very well in Australia (and New Zealand)! FKA was not the only cutting edge BIM company that pushed the boundaries of BIM using ArchiCAD in Australia in the early 2000s – Rice Dabney, Woods Bagot and others did too. Making progress.

Stress and lack of productivity are largely related to several factors: uncertainty, poor communication/collaboration, improperly assigned time factors, etc., Can productivity and transparency be improved? Revit, Archicad et al… are NOT BIM, but rather 3D visualization components of BIM. and thus can only be mitigated.
