2012….A World That Keeps On Pushin’ Us Around

Constructonomics

In keeping with the yearly tradition of the Constructonomics blog I’d like to propose a theme song for 2012… So if the theme song for 2011 was, “Stayin’ Alive”, I couldn’t help but try to peg 2012 with something like, “Livin’ On A Prayer” However, I won’t. Not because we’re less than halfway there, but because this would be far too pessimistic.

Interview With Rachel Yoka on Productivity

Help Everybody Everyday

In the February 2011 issue of SMPS Marketer, I interview Rachel Yoka, Vice President of Strategic Business Planning and Sustainability at TimHaahs. Much of what we talked about couldn’t fit in SMPS Marketer. But I felt the unused portions provided a perspective that would be useful to the HelpEverybodyEveryday readers. In this unpublished piece, we discuss productivity, managing unreasonable proposal demands, cutting the pie, paper versus electronic, and closing your office door.

Sports and Construction – Lessons Learned

Construction Law Monitor

Growing up in South Louisiana, originally from Baton Rouge and now residing in New Orleans, I’ve had a really rough week being a sports fan. After LSU laid an egg in the BCS Championship game and the Saints came up seconds short in the NFL playoffs , I began to ponder, what can we learn from this? Being a construction law attorney , I wanted my clients and readers to learn form the mistakes and shortcomings of my favorite teams.

Press and Drag

Revit OpEd

The Autodesk blog " Inside the Factory " is asking about the Press and Drag option. Using this software for as long as I have I'm quite unhappy when the option is off. Maybe it's minor or strange, and to some irksome or even dangerous, but I'm very used to and happy to use it. So far the comments on their post seem to be running in favor of removing or "blunting" it somehow.

The Shared Parameter File has no Relationships

Revit OpEd

I frequently read about or hear questions about this concept that generally assume or expect that there is some inherent (permanent or connected) relationship between a shared parameter file and the use of such a parameter in a project or family. The shared parameter file has no active relationship (no link, no "xref", no lookup) with your families or projects so there is no risk of someone running off with it, or it getting deleted.
