USGBC Making Significant Change to LEED 2009

The U.S. Green Building Council has just announced that all new projects registering for LEED 2009 beginning on April 8, 2016 will need to satisfy increased minimum energy performance thresholds. USGBC reported the results of the balloting with 78.6 percent of the consensus body voting in favor of this change to the 7 year old rating system. By the Foundations of LEED rules, a minimum of two thirds approval was needed for any balloted measure.

Cat Reports 21 Percent Global Sales Drop for 3-Month Period

Caterpillar's 8-K filing today reports a 21 percent drop in worldwide total machine retail sales for the rolling three-month period ending in February, following a 15 percent decline for the three months ending in January. CAT says retail sales to resource industries worldwide plummeted 42 percent during the three-month rolling period of December 2015, January 2016 and February 2016, compared to a 35 percent drop in the prior three months.

FAA Releases Pre-Approved Drone List for "333" Exemption Approvals

With the number of FAA 333 Exemptions for commercial use of drones about to hit 4,000, the FAA has released a list of more than 1,100 pre-approved drone makes and models, an apparent first step in easing the ability to get an exemption. Deere Announces Indefinite Layoffs at Two Locations

Deere & Company informed approximately 125 employees at two factories in Iowa that they will be placed on indefinite layoff. The workforce adjustment affects approximately 75 employees at Deere's construction and forestry division factory in Dubuque and approximately 50 employees at the agriculture and turf division factory in Ankeny. The layoff at the Ankeny location, which is part of the agriculture and turf division, is effective April 15.
