Construction Collaboration: PDF Secrets Part 2 – On-line Meeting for PDF Changes Now or Later

Carol Hagen

Construction Collaboration often involves sharing documents during an on-line web meeting. While many solutions allow for these sessions to be recorded, there are few that let you leave it open for up to 2 weeks, append to the meeting later, or provide a way to capture the log of the discussion, particularly when changes are made to a “working” PDF.

SAB HOMES 6 - RAMMED EARTH CONSTRUCTIONS

SAB Magazine

ammed earth construction is the process of building with sub soils [not top soils or ‘mud’] and compacting them into a formwork of some kind, until they are as solid as stone. It is very similar to the way in which sedimentary rock is formed in nature. Just as there are many colours of sedimentary rock, so there is a natural variation in the colouring of rammed earth – a variation that can be enhanced by the addition of iron oxide or other natural pigments.

Workflow Audit

Revit OpEd

Seth Godin wrote a brief post today called Time for a Workflow Audit. It explains very simply one way people like me (Revit consultants) help others (and their firms) with Revit. As a consultant I tend to call it mentoring. Seth wrote: Go find a geek. Someone who understands gmail, Outlook, Excel and other basic tools. The BIM free utopia.

Consider this: you are a confident consultant (architect, engineer) prepared to stand up publicly and say: “No, we do no BIM in our office and are proud of it! We produce documentation for our buildings ‘the good old way’ and use CAD where absolutely necessary and only to mimic the traditional processes. Our buildings don’t come from cookie-cutters, we fashion each-and-every one from scratch by painstakingly drawing up separate views for all plans, elevations and sections.

I think my opinion is too narrow in this case and he agreed to let me open it up a little more, to this blog's readers.

A red rag to the BIM bull?

DebunkTheBIM

Remember my post on colours in BIM? No? Great, I can write about the subject again. The human eye sees about 7,000,000 colours, some sources say (would be interesting to know how they come up with such a number?). Colours are everywhere and their impact on us shouldn’t be under-estimated. Even without a lot of scientific knowledge on the subject we ‘know’ (from some personal experience) that colours can affect our mood, make us work well or feel tired, calm down or irritate ‘up’.
